I think you are to hard on yourself. Why let the religion win? It was the religion that made everybody believe that only they were right, and therefore made us arrogant. Now as a traitor you can see the difference between intolerance and narrow mindedness. So I would just pat yourself on the back.

many seek happiness externally and many a time assign others the possession of their happiness.
when they derive a sort of happiness from external sources, they dont feel satisfied, hence jump to the next and then to the next .... in contrast, jesus said gods kingdom (or real happiness) is within (entos) you.
this cannot be misinterpreted as jesus being the king of the kingdom was amidst them as jws do.
I get your point about "elusive" happiness inconoclasic.
I think "elusive" happiness is both internal and external, influenced by change. Each day we change, even in the way we think. We must be open to change, but to much thinking can be as shit, as can be to much anything.
Many keep their clothes clean, are only content with the best piece of meat and most expensive wine. Others are never content with out understanding and developing the mind. However some like their potatoes with cabbage, and are happy living largely on little education. Often I have noticed these simple uncomplicated people are the most happy.
But we each have our philosophy and we each have our vision of truth, preaching them would make this thread go on for page after page. It's definitely not profitable reading.

Interesting thread, which suggests embarrassment depends on the context a great deal.
Do I feel second hand embaressemt when I see brothers and sisters standing by the street trolley?
Possibly but I prefer the phrase " external shame". I think this phrase better captures the weight of emotion as I empathise with the fact it could so easily have been me standing by that trolley making a prat of myself.

The shelves are full of book exposing the Witness Orgaisation.The Internet is full of factual recordings exposing the Witness organisation. We understand the language.
My question is why are such messages not accepted by the indoctrinated?
I don't know the answer to my question, but each day I say continuously to myself " Thank you" because I understand the language, and i am no longer indoctrinated.

My friend, I was once very snug and secure at the Kingdom Hall, I used to get the occasional outbursts from elders but I was always ready to forgive. Therefore I think now as an ex-witness I should also forget such a cold and haughty reply, but at the same time not be hypocritically polite.
On that basis how do I answer your thoughtful comment?
This is my answer. The world and people are made up of small primitive structures, maybe made up of small particles called atoms, yet for me the highest form of existence is " respect".
I think this is why I was so successful on the ministry, I knocked on a door and took it further than a door knock, made many friends that way. And I was never embarresed by my dedication and commitment to learning from and sharing the wealth of experience of each persons human existence.

Are you suggesting I should stop eating? That I should not convey my thoughts that modern tecnology provides, as I sip a beer and listen to American Beauty?
if so my answer would be, that would be a wasteful opportunity to cross pollinate thoughts with people whose exsperiences have helped me come to a greater understanding of my past.

I am embarrsed by my baptism. To think I needed a certificate for eternal life.
A baptised witness was " special" . A certificate from Jehover, made ME special. There were wars, starving people, and calamities in daily life but none of this was as important as my baptised certificate approved by Jehover.

Thanks for the post.
My reason for starting many of my threads is the search for such inspirational thoughts.
Before I found this site I was very resentful of elders. I have since discoverd, a puzzle that is more complicated to piece together. My hope with this thread is to increase my deeper understanding of how our awakened posters cope by having to remain inside the organisation.
